Floy Whitney Owen

Floy Owen receiving the Robe of Achievement, 2001

“Proverbs 31:17 states that a wife of noble character sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” Floy Own was a wonderful example of this as a tireless servant in her family, her job, congregation, and in her denomination. She and her husband of more than 50 years raised five children and have 19 grandchildren.

In the time that Floy was a member of two SDB churches she served as a deaconess, a Sabbath School teacher, Steering Committee member, committee chairman, Women’s Society officer, Youth advisor, church treasurer,  and was involved with the community outreach program.

Floy was actively involved with Association serving on the Executive and Camp Committees and working on camp staff, both as a teacher and cook. Denominationally Floy was a member of General Council and served as President of the Women’s Board, representing Seventh Day Baptists at national and international meetings.

In spite of the recurring effects of multiple sclerosis she worked tirelessly with her husband to build and manage a multi million dollar company. She was also invited to be a guest speaker at Fuller Seminary to testify to God’s healing power on several occasions.

Floy regularly gave God all the credit for her accomplishments and so was an inspiration for all she came into contact with.
