Jacqueline L. Wells Payne

Jaqueline Payne in the Robe of Achievement, 2009

Jackie Payne had an impressive record of service to the churches she was affiliated with, to the communities she lived in, and to our denomination.

Affiliated with three different SDB churches, she served as a deaconess, choir member, Sabbath School teacher, camp counselor, Women’s Society chairman and secretary, worked with Vacation Bible School, provided housing and meals for SCSC and Pastor’s Conferences, and served as a church officer.

She volunteered at the library and local hospitals, tutoring elementary children, volunteered at local community theater, organized an exercise program for senior citizens, provided transportation for seniors, donated books to the local library, and delivered Meals on wheels.

She served the denomination with Missionary Society and on the Women’s Board. She was also the secretary for many interest committees at General Conference. As a missionary to Jamaica she worked as a teacher and a secretarial assistant to the head of the mission, served as treasurer on the Jamaican Board of Christian Education, assisted with accounting at Crandall High School and assisted in starting an Intermediate Christian Endeavor group in the Kingston church.

She was quiet, wise, and unassuming person who did not forcer her way on others. She was welcomed and enjoyed by everyone. Bible study and prayer were a regular part of her life. She spent most of her life focused on serving God.
